UniSFA is a club rife with tradition. And when clubs have tradition and an imperative to procrastinate, inevitably they will create annual events. Furthermore, being a club theoretically centered around a passion for Speculative Fiction, said events are most usually themed towards one form or instance of Speculative Fiction or the other. These are some of them. They are less than all of them. They are in no particular order.

TerraCon is our annual camp into the wilderness. For the last few years it's been held at the beautiful, though deathly cold during winter, Tone River settlement. This year, however, it will be held at the Myalup Pines cottages. We rent out a dozen or so cozy huts with open fires, many beds and a kitchen, and spend one weekend of the mid-semester break having fun.
The list of things we play and do to entertain ourselves is always growing, but includes board games, card games, LARPing (Live Action Role Playing), shooting each other with arrows and water, singing badly to good music, perving on the hundreds of roos (mmm, roos - ed.) and so on and so on ad infinitum. TerraCon should be found somewhere around early June on the Events Calendar.
Other events traditionally held during the camp are a Quiz Night and Slave Auction, where the committee may be bought and subjected to whatever you desire of them [NB: They may not find this morally objectionable [NB: For the bulk of committee members, this is an empty set]]. There are also the God Elections, where we elect God, the Vice-God (or God of Vice), the Anti-Christ, and Baldrick. And finally, the Iron Stomach contest, which, unfortunately, is what it sounds like.
Another large feature of the camp is Radio Free TerraCon - or RFT. This is a pirate radio station we set up for the duration of the camp because we're so deep into the bush (and haven't been arrested for it yet), and the locals need entertainment at least once a year. UniSFAns are free to get onto the schedule and air whatever the hell they want for hours on end. So come one, come all and join in the festivities!

Not a UniSFAn event, per se, but an ever-increasing number of UniSFAns attend and participate in SwanCon, WA's largest annual SF convention. UniSFA subsidises membership and books rooms for members to squeeze into... er... no! Actually it's very cozy with that many people in one room.
The convention has something for everyone [involved in a subculture derived from Speculative Fiction]! Panels run concurrently in three or so rooms for the duration, as well as live video streams, screening a wide spectrum of fannish features including classic SF and Anime. Many rooms are set asside for various types of Gaming, and there is always a veritable onslaught of Book Launches, Art Shows and Room Parties.
SwanCon's website has jumped from one spot to another for the last many years, but hopefully will be quite stable for a little while to come at it's current home in http://www.swancon.com. SwanCon usually runs over the Easter weekend holidays, since almost everyone has that little slot of time off, and since SF and Christian holidays are mutually exclusive for many (personal observation - ed.). The Easter weekend is usually around Easter - consult the calendar.

Well after we've gotten over the damage inflicted to our sadly mortal bodies as a result of SwanCon, we hold a long-overdue Easter picnic. This is not merely an excuse to spend money on chocholate for the regular club members - why just look at the pretty surroundings in the photos here!
Besides the Easter shindig, every year, on the Sunday closest to Bilbo and Frodo’s Birthday, we hold the Hobbits Picnic. The person with the hairiest feet (ie. Adam (shuttup - ed.)) is declared the Hobbit for the year.
Both are full of fairy bread, frizbies and other somewhat immature activities. Imagine all the usual things that go along with picnics, like barbequeues, poker and other slightly more nerdy type games, and you're close to a vision of the UniSFAn picnics. The picture to the left is Joc, having just won a great deal of chocolate.
Thanks to Tommo for all the pictures on this page. And thanks to me, Adam, for writing all this. And thanks especially to anyone who replaces this in the future, with something better.
