 Browse our Library Catalogue Online!

You can now browse through our library catalouge on the web. Point your browser at library.unisfa.asn.au. As well as being able to browse our extensive science fiction library. You will also be able to log in with your library card number (and a password you assign yourself) to check out overdue books, reserved books, fines and all sorts of other information.

Stay tuned, the number of books recorded online in the system is growing every day and soon the OPAC will be available for browsing all over the world.

 Borrowing

The UniSFAn Borrowing rules are relatively simple. Firstly, one has to be a club member to borrow. Secondly (and most importantly), only the novels are available to be borrowed - Graphic Novels, DVDs, Videos etc. stay in the clubroom at all times. So, once you've selected your one or more books, follow the following procedure:

This is how to borrow books with KOHA (as of April 2004).

  1. Have the KOHA Librarian's Interfact open. There is a bookmark for it if the browser is already open, and an icon (Galeon) on the desktop if it isn't.
  2. There is a login screen. The guest username and password are written on the noticeboard above the monitor.
  3. Click the "circulation" option from the list.
  4. Do what the computer tells you: ie. enter your username or surname, and scan the barcode. If you do not think you have a username, contact one of the people below. The barcode should be on the first page of the book, in the top-right corner.)

If you have any problems, like if the book is not in the database or does not have a barcode, please ask Nic (the librarian), Penny, Meryki, Ben, Zoe or Chris B. for help. If the entire Koha system melts, contact UniSFA Committee so they can poke the correct people to recover it from backup.

Other important things to note:

  • If you do not return your book after 2 months we will ring you up and bug you until you flee the country in shame.
  • If you lose a book you must either pay a fine of $10 or provide a replacement copy in good condition
  • A maximum of eight books may be borrowed at one time.
  • You may not read or borrow a book unless it is covered, catalogued and stamped.
 Submit Recommendations

Since we're not a drinking club, the founders of UniSFA had to actually give the Guild reason to shower money upon us. So it is that the constitution dictates a large percentage of our income be used to expand the library every year. As such, we go on a couple of Books Buys and GN Buys every year to expand our library of novels, GNs and other assorted media (DVDs, yay!). What's bought on these runs is largely up to the club members, through recommendation. Rarely does the list of recommendations exceed our buying potential, so if you want something but can't afford it yourself, submit it to the librarian here and if we can find it, we'll probably get it! Keep in mind anything non-SF or too entirely pornographic will probably be dismissed.
